Explore the mountains of Norway in winter time! During four day workshop I will take you to some the most fascinating places for photography in Norway. In January everything is covered with snow, the rivers are frozen and the canyons are filled with huge icicles.

This workshop will give you a roundtrip in mountain areas of Trøndelag and Oppland. We visit famous places like the world heritage site Røros and its surroundings on the first day. The next day we go into the Dovre mountain to photograph musks. Then we move southwards through Gudbrandsdalen and spend a full day in Helvete (Hell) which is a steep river ravine that consists of some of the largest potholes to be found in Northern Europe. At this time of the year the ravine sides usually is covered with huge icicles.

Together with experienced photographer and workshop leader Bjørn Joachimsen you will spent a lot of quality photography time in the mountain areas of Norway. Workshop activites take place from early morning until evenings every day.

The workshop takes place January 16.–20, 2019.

Early Bird Price until June 1, 2018 is €850. After this date workshop fee will be €950.

Bjørn Joachimsen (1967) is a Norwegian independent photographer that moves around in natural and urban landscapes with his cameras – always open for being surprised by what he can see and visualize through photographs. He tries to create images that ask questions rather than providing answers.

Prerequisites

  • You should be experienced within photography
  • You must know how to use your camera and other photographic gear
  • You should be physically fit.

What you can expect from the mountains

The temperatures, the snow conditions and the wind may shift rapidly.

Maximum number of participants is 6.

Practical information

Dates

The workshop starts Janurary 16, at 3.00 PM (15:00) and finishes January 20 at 5.00 PM (17.00), 2019. You must reserve all time for working with photography during these days.

Registration deadline

November 1, 2018

Travel

You can go by plane to Gardermoen and we will pick you up by the terminal at 3 PM, Wednesday 16, 2019. All transportation during the workshop is included in the fee. We return to OSL Gardermoen Airport at 5 PM, Sunday 20, 2019.

Accommodation and meals

We will stay at Erzscheidergaarden, Røros (Wednesday – Thursday), Oppdal Turisthotel (Thursday–Friday) and Ruten Fjellstue (Friday–Sunday).

Costs for accomodation and all meals

  • Single room occupancy, including all meals during the workshop: NOK 3995.-  per person. Included meals are: All breakfasts, dinner and lunch Friday–Sunday. (Additional cost for lunch and dinner Wednesday and Thursday.)

What to bring with you

  • System camera with lens(es)
  • Spare battery for your camera
  • Charger for your camera batteries
  • Tripod with flexible leg angles
  • Warm footwear
  • Warm clothes and wind jacket
  • Winter gloves
  • Winter cap
  • Snowshoes if you have. You can rent snowshoes at additional cost (NOK 100-150 per day).

Workshop language

The workshop will be conducted in English. Individual tuition can also be given in Norwegian upon request.

Bjørn Joachimsen (1967) is a Norwegian independent photographer that moves around in natural and urban landscapes with his cameras – always open for being surprised by what he can see and visualize through photographs. He tries to create images that ask questions rather than providing answers.

He works within a broad range of photographic genres and styles and utilizes both analog and digital technique for his work. Bjørn is among the leading workshop instructors within photography in Norway and teaches both nature photography, portrait, action and gives a lot of courses in image editing and workflow with Lightroom and Photoshop. He is intrinsically connected to the coast of Norway and spends a lot of time with his camera along these shores and in the coastal forests.
